The Daughter of the Moon Goddess was just WOW!

I can not put into words how good this book was, I mean where do I even start! The writing was fantastic, the storytelling was amazing, the characters owned my heart, the cover of the book was beautiful, and to top it all off I could not put this book down! I would recommend this book a thousand times over if I could, this may be one of my best books of 2022! Just WOW!

Plot:

What is this book about?

This book is about so much, it is about family, friendship, love, and a whole lot of adventure.

The book starts off with Xingyin a young naive girl who is the daughter of the beloved Moon Goddess, or so Xingyin thinks. The fact is Chang 'e, her mother, is in exile, banished from ever leaving the moon by the Emperor and Empress of Jade palace. All of Chang'e's life has been devoted to keeping Xingyin's existence hidden from that of the Empress and Emperor. However, one-day Xingyin disobeys her mothers and she is forced to flee in hopes that she is not found out. She falls to the world below during her escape and lands in the heart of the Jade City. From there her adventure starts.

Characters:

Xingyin - Xingyin was such a strong character, but she was not always strong and intelligent. At the beginning of the book, you can tell that Xingyin is young and a bit naive to the world around her and the world her mother lives in her head. However, as soon as Xingyin is left to fend for herself in Jade city where no one knows who she truly is, she starts to gradually grow up. She slowly started to become clever and strong, and she learned how to fight and defend herself. I think Xingyin had the best character development in the book.

Liwei - I loved Liwei, I think he was a bit arrogant at times and ignorant of his privilege which was irritating at times. However, Liwei also grows as the story progresses maybe at a slower rate than Xingyin but he still has character development. I loved the nature of Xingyin and Liwei's relationship at first and how they slowly but suddenly turned into lovers. Liwei, even after their relationship takes a turn for the worst never stops caring for Xingyin and will always love her no matter who they are with and what they are doing.

Wenzhi- I will talk briefly about his character because his character comes later in the story and the role he played came as a bit of a shock so I won't spoil it for you. However, Wenzhi was very serious and guarded at times but as his and Xingyin's relationship grew and we learned more about him, I became more invested in him and how his relationship with Xingyin would turn out but I was thrown for a loop at the end.

Final Thoughts:

This book was magnificent, I got completely lost in the world that Sue Lynn Tan created. I thought the writing was lyrical and beautiful. It was so easy to just get lost in the words and it feels like you are actually there experiencing everything. My favorite part of any book is the characters, and the fact that I was so invested in each one and how everything would turn out for them says a lot about this book. This book is so much more than just a romance, it's about friendship, family, and learning how to grow up and be yourself. I would totally recommend this book to anyone who likes to read good books and good writing.
